Onoayo Projector Review: My Honest Experience After Weeks of Use

I bought this mainly to replace an old bedroom projector that was starting to feel annoying to use. It still worked, but every time I turned it on there was always some small adjustment needed. Focus, alignment, angle, something.

I just wanted something I could switch on at night and not think about.

Quick Takeaways

  • Setup was fast, almost no effort
  • Auto focus and auto keystone actually work well in real use
  • Ceiling projection works smoothly for bedroom viewing
  • Picture looks sharp in a dark room
  • Sound is okay, external speaker still better
  • It runs warm after a while

First Night Using It

I set it up on the ceiling because that is how I usually watch things in bed.

It connected fast, which already put me in a better mood about it. I did not have to sit there restarting WiFi or digging through menus.

I switched it to ceiling mode and it just flipped everything correctly without me thinking too much about it.

What surprised me was the auto focus. I moved it slightly out of curiosity and it just corrected itself. No manual fiddling. No “let me adjust this again” moment.

That alone made it feel easier than my old setup.

What It Feels Like to Actually Use

After a few days, I stopped noticing it in a good way. I just turn it on at night and it sorts itself out. Focus adjusts, keystone adjusts, and I am watching something within a minute or two. That sounds small, but that is exactly what makes me keep using it. I noticed I stopped skipping movie nights because setup felt like effort.

Picture Quality in Real Use

At night, it looks really good. That is when it makes sense. The image feels sharp enough that I do not find myself getting distracted by quality issues. It just looks clean on the wall or ceiling.

During the day, it is usable but not the same experience. I would not rely on it in a bright room. But I did test it out and it still holds up better than I expected in a dim space.

Sound, Fan, and Heat

The built-in speakers are fine for casual watching. Nothing special, but usable if you are not being picky. I still prefer external speakers though, especially for movies.

Fan noise is low enough that I forget about it most of the time. That matters more than I expected because my old projector had a constant background noise I could never ignore.

One thing I did notice is heat. After a while it gets noticeably warm. Not in a worrying way, just something you become aware of if it runs long.

What Stood Out Over Time

The real difference is how little effort it asks from you.

Older projectors always felt like a small setup process every time. This one does not.

Even when I move it slightly, it just fixes itself. That sounds simple, but it removes a lot of the friction that usually makes me not bother using a projector at all.

Small Downsides I Noticed

The Amazon listing is a bit messy, with typos and unclear specs. That part did make me raise an eyebrow.

It also reports 1280×720, which is lower than what some listings suggest. It does not ruin the experience for me, but it is something to be aware of.

And while the built-in apps exist, I basically ignore them and just stream from my own devices.

Conclusion

This ended up being one of those purchases that slowly replaces your old setup without you really planning it. I did not expect much beyond “decent bedroom projector,” but the ease of use is what keeps it in rotation.

It is not perfect, especially with heat and listing accuracy, but in daily use it is simple, reliable, and easy to live with. And that is really why I kept it.
