So I bought this mostly because it looked good, glass bottle, little crystal sitting in its own compartment at the bottom, the kind of thing that actually looks nice on a desk instead of getting shoved in a cabinet with the rest of my water bottles. And honestly for like the first few days it was great. I liked that the lid unscrews and the base unscrews too so cleaning it isn’t a whole ordeal with a bottle brush, and it comes with this little protective sleeve which I wasn’t expecting and actually kind of loved, glass bottle plus backpack is normally a bad combo.

Does the ChezMax Crystal Water Bottle Leak?
Yeah. From the base, specifically, and it happened right after the first time I took it apart to clean it, which is annoying because cleaning it is literally the thing the unscrewable design is supposed to make easier. Wasn’t a slow drip either, I noticed water on the counter before I even picked the bottle back up.
Trying Everything to Stop the Leak
Figured I just didn’t screw it back on right, so I took it apart again. Flipped the gasket around because maybe it was seated wrong. Still leaked. Flipped it back to how it was originally. Still leaked. Thought maybe I was over-tightening it and warping something, so I loosened it up, under-tightened on purpose. Leaked. Went the other way, cranked it down as tight as it would go. Leaked. Found what felt like the actual sweet spot in the middle, not too loose not too tight, screwed it on carefully. Leaked anyway.
At this point I’ve basically given up on the base sealing the way it’s supposed to on its own. Ordered a thicker gasket to see if that’s the actual fix, and if that doesn’t do it I’m just going to silicone the thing myself, which, again, it’s a water bottle, I shouldn’t need a repair kit for it to hold water.
Is This a Common ChezMax Complaint?
I did go look afterward to see if I was just unlucky or if this is a known thing, because at some point you start wondering if you got a defective unit versus this just being how they all are. Turns out it’s not just me. Other people with ChezMax bottles, including different versions of basically the same design, report the exact same thing, leaks from the bottom, doesn’t matter how tight you get it. Somebody else mentioned the glass part inside cracking after less than a month of buying this bottle. It doesn’t hold up.
Pros and Cons
What I liked:
- Base and lid both unscrew, so cleaning is actually simple
- Comes with a protective sleeve, which most bottles in this category don’t include
- Looks genuinely nice, the crystal is visible without floating loose in your water
- Good size, doesn’t feel bulky to carry around
What I didn’t:
- Base leaks, no matter how tight or loose you screw it on
- Leak started right after the first cleaning, not from day one, so you might not catch it before your return window closes
- No real fix offered, you’re left experimenting with gaskets or sealant yourself
Better Alternatives If You Want This Without the Leaking
A few other crystal bottles come up a lot when people are specifically looking for something that won’t leak from the base.
The Larrare crystal water bottle uses a stainless steel insert in the lid instead of plain plastic, paired with a silicone gasket, and it’s held up better in reviews specifically around the leak-proof claim.
The Navaris crystal water bottle has the same unscrewable base design as ChezMax, but multiple reviewers specifically call out that it seals well and doesn’t leak even after regular use, which is exactly the part that didn’t work out for me here.
Neither is going to be flawless, no product ever is, but if the base leaking is a dealbreaker for you like it was for me, they’re worth looking at before you commit to ChezMax specifically.
Would I Recommend the ChezMax Crystal Water Bottle?
Not right now, no. I still think the design itself is a good idea, unscrewable base, the sleeve, being able to actually see the crystal instead of it floating around loose. None of that really matters if I’ve got water on my counter every time I use it. I don’t know how else to put it. Would not recommend, at least not until whatever’s going on with the base gets fixed, because right now you’re basically signing up to become your own repair technician for a bottle that’s supposed to just, you know, hold water.
Bottom Line
I wanted to like this one. The idea’s good. Mine just leaks, no matter what I do to the gasket or how tight I screw it down, and I’m not the only one saying that. If you’re set on it anyway, at least go in knowing you might end up buying a spare gasket before you buy a second bottle, or just look at one of the alternatives above first.
